چکیده

When a digital forensics investigator suspects that steganography has been used to hide data in an image, he must not only determine that the image contains embedded information but also identify the method used for embedding. The determination of the embedding method – or stego fingerprint – is critical to extracting the hidden information. This paper focuses on identifying stego fingerprints in JPEG images. The steganography tools targeted are F5, JSteg, Model-Based Embedding, OutGuess and StegHide. Each of these tools embeds data in a dramatically different way and, therefore, presents a different challenge to extracting the hidden information. The embedding methods are distinguished using features developed from sets of stego images that are used to train a multi-class support vector machine (SVM) classifier. For new images, the image features are calculated and evaluated based on their associated label to the most similar class, i.e., clean or embedding method feature space. The SVM results demonstrate that, in the worst case, embedding methods can be distinguished with 87% reliability.

Chapter 1 STEGANOGRAPHY DETECTION USING MULTI-CLASS CLASSIFICATION

Several steganography tools are freely available over the Internet, ranging from straight forward least significant embedding to complex transform domain encrypted algorithms within digital images. Given the number of tools available, the digital forensics investigator must not only determine that an image contains embedded hidden information but the method used during the embedding process, al...

A New Approach for Block Based Steganalysis Using a Multi-classifier

The aim of the recent block-based steganalysis approaches, is to detect and differentiate cover and stego images. In this research, the discovering capability of the steganography algorithm was used for a sample stego image by designing a multi classifier. This kind of classification was used for the steganalysis of smaller blocks of an image. Because normal images mostly have heterogeneous reg...

Steganography Anomaly Detection Using Simple One-Class Classification

There are several security issues tied to multimedia when implementing the various applications in the cellular phone and wireless industry. One primary concern is the potential ease of implementing a steganography system. Traditionally, the only mechanism to embed information into a media file has been with a desktop computer. However, as the cellular phone and wireless industry matures, it be...

Fusion of Multi-class Steg- Analysis Systems Using Bayesian Model Averaging

Several steganography methods are available over the Internet for hiding information within digital images. A digital forensics examiner must be able to extract a hidden message from a digital image. Extraction requires first identifying the embedding method used. Several steganalysis systems exist that identify a subset of the available embedding methods. Each steganalysis systems has its own ...
